Abstract: The data described in this article are related to drought occurrence in inland valley sand farmers adaptation strategies.The data were col- lected in 300 inland valleys distributed in 14 regions of Wes tAfrica. The data were collected in two phases. In the first phase,300 inland valleys were identified in14 regions and the irlocations weredeter- minedwithhandheldGPSdevices.Questionnairesandinformal interviewswereadministeredtoinlandvalleysuserstocollectdata on physicalandsocio-economiccharacteristics,hydrology,farmers experiencewithdroughtaffectingriceproductionininlandvalleys andadaptationstrategies.Inthesecondphase,thelocationsofthe inlandvalleyswereimportedinaGISenvironmentandwereusedto extractadditionalparametersonsoilcharacteristicsandwater demandfromtheShuttleRadarTopographyMission(SRTM),Africa Soil InformationService(africasoils.net)andPOWERdatabase(http://power.larc.nasa.gov).Intotal,thedatasetcontains41variablesdivi- ded intoseventhemes:farmers’ experiencewithdrought,adaptive managementofricefarmerstodrought,physica lcharacteristics, hydrology,managementpractices,socio-economiccharacteristics and weatherdataofinlandvalleys.
