| Abstract: | The upsurge in economic activities and urban dwellers has spurred sprawl-like growth in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis. This study used Landsat imageries and Shannon entropy to assess sprawl in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis. Analysis of the study revealed an increase in built-up by 63.07 km2 while Shannon entropy result (which ranged from 2.17 to 2.47), revealed that the metropolis has been sprawling from 1991 to 2023. Hence, causing significant changes in the land cover composition of the metropolis. This study provides valuable insights into the spatial dynamics of the metropolis, which will guide policymakers in addressing the environmental challenges associated with urban expansion. |
